Professional Associations for Email Marketers

As a twenty-year veteran of the Email Marketing and Deliverability field, I’m often asked about the best way to stay updated on the constant changes and developments in our field.  The answer is the Professional Associations & Organizations that focus on our trade. To start, here are three which can help you stay current with all the issues that affect the email industry:

1. Email Experience Council (EEC):  The EEC is the email marketing arm of the Data & Marketing Association (now part of the ANA), a global professional organization whose mission is to enhance the image of email marketing and communications while advocating its critical importance in business.  The EEC is the voice of the email marketing community and a source of knowledge and expertise for both beginners and seasoned practitioners. The EEC provides a wealth of educational programs and best practices guidance to its members.

2. Email Sender & Provider Coalition (ESPC):  The ESPC is a cooperative group of email industry leaders working together to create solutions for the ever-present proliferation of spam and continuing problems with deliverability.  The ESPC is currently working on spam solutions and deliverability concerns through a combination of legislative advocacy, tech development and promulgating industry standards.

3. The Messaging, Malware and Mobile Anti-Abuse Working Group (M3AAWG):  M3AAWG (pronounced “maw-g”) is an international information technology industry forum that works to reduce the threat from bots, malware, spam, viruses, DoS attacks and other online exploitation.  The role of M3AAWG is to bring various aspects of the industry together to discuss related anti-abuse issues; and, based on this cooperative effort, produce best practices, public policy comments, white papers and other materials. M3AAWG publishes many best practices documents for high-volume email marketing senders, as well as numerous training documents on email & messaging technologies.

Membership in these organizations is by application and well worth the effort and time to join and participate. eDataSource is a proudly contributing member of all three.
